Social Empowerment Fund

The Social Empowerment Fund (SEF) is a job creation program implemented by the Industrial Development Corporation. ImagineIf, in partnership with DUCT (Duzi Umgeni Conservation Trust) has secured funding through SEF to implement a waste recovery campaign focused on hard-to-recover and low value recycling through the employment and training of local community members.

Currently, this funding is allowing ImagineIf to employ 300 local community members to support waste clean-ups, collection, sorting and processing of recycling across Umngeni's townships and informal settlements. Since October 2023, they have managed to collect 75 597 kgs of hard-to-recover and low value recycling.
